ImageDiocesan children’s charity Parents And Children Together (PACT) has appointed a new Chief Executive, Jan Fishwick.

Jan says "My career in social work began in 1975 as the deputy matron of a 12 bed reception centre for children aged 0-18. Sometimes babies and young children would be cared for in a care home rather than a foster home, but thankfully practice has progressed a long way since then. Still working on the Wirral where I grew up, I then took up a position as an unqualified generic social worker before I qualified in social work in 1981.

All my posts since then have concerned children and families and particularly fostering and adoption. I worked in Derbyshire both as a child protection social worker and a fostering social worker after which I chose to take seven years out from working to raise our three sons, all of whom are now adults. During this time I contributed to the local community by setting up and running a carers and toddler group, a before and after school club and a nursery, all run as cooperatives. My work then took me to Bury and then to London, firstly in Kensington and Chelsea where I covered both fostering and adoption as a social worker, then as a manager. I then joined Brent as head of the Placements service where I have worked for the last six years. And now a new venture awaits me as chief executive of PACT, a post I am very much looking forward to.

I strongly believe I can make a contribution to improving the outcomes for children and families and I am passionate about continuing to make a difference for them in my new role. Working together within PACT and in partnerships with others in the field will be key to our continued success. I anticipate that the agency will go from strength to strength and that children and families’ lives will be improved as a result."
