PACT Father's Group is a great opportunity for Adoptive Fathers (and
those due to become Adoptive Fathers) to share the challenges, joys,
responsibilities of parenting adopted children.
Fathers play an important role in families, and research has shown that
children who have fathers actively involved with their lives benefit in
terms of educational and social development.
The group meets 3 times a year and the fathers choose the issues they
want to be discussed and how they want to cover them. There is
also the opportunity to review the latest research, information,
articles, and to hear from guest speakers.
The next meeting for the Fathers’ Group will be Tuesday 29th September 8pm at the George Hotel, Wallingford. Please email Simon Furlong at simonf@pactcharity.org if would like to come.
"I have found the father's group to be a wonderful
opportunity to meet other prospective and adoptive parents in an informal
setting. The opportunity to hear stories and experiences from other fathers,
and sometimes offer suggestions and advice, help to show that the problems (and
triumphs!) that my wife and I have encountered are by no means unique to us.
Hearing the concerns and experiences of other fathers who are newer to adoption
than us, and being able to offer support, highlights to me just what progress
we have made. Similarly hearing from the 'old-hands' has proved
invaluable."
