Intercountry Adoption

PACT has a dedicated and experienced team of adoption and fostering social workers. We have been providing an Intercountry Adoption (ICA) service for over ten years and over this time have built up a significant level of expertise. We are in several professional networks of ICA practitioners, and through these continue to develop our knowledge and skills in ICA.  We have placed many children and have benefitted from our increasing contacts across the world.

PACT currently holds contracts with 35 Local Authorities to provide ICA services on their behalf and as such is the largest provider of a specialist Intercountry Adoption service in the UK.

The children available for adoption from overseas may come from a variety of countries. Each will have had an experience in an orphanage or foster care within their own country. The children will be aged between 12 months and five years.

We are looking for resourceful families who can be patient but proactive with the adoption process. You will need to cover the costs involved. You will need to respect and keep alive the child’s culture and history.

Intercountry Preparation Workshops

At PACT we run informative and welcoming preparation courses throughout the year to prepare intercountry adoption applicants for the very specific task of adopting a child from overseas. The course is run over three days by two very experienced social workers, with professional and personal experience of intercountry adoption. The course is highly valued by participants.  As well as covering the process of intercountry adoption – both in the UK and in the applicant’s country of choice, the course covers information on the needs of children placed for adoption with specific focus on the areas relevant to children placed from overseas, such as the impact of institutional care, and uncertainty in relation to health needs. There is also ample opportunity to discuss specific queries and concerns with the course convenors. For more information click here.

Intercountry Adoptive Parent Telephone Surgeries

We look forward to hearing from our approved adopters and prospective adopters from who we have accepted an application form, and hope that the new telephone surgeries will provide a useful opportunity for you to contact a social worker to discuss any queries or concerns you have. Contact is welcomed; you do not need to have a problem to phone.
