Maternal Separation Support Group Facilitator, Alana House Womens Community Project
Alana House at PACT is an innovative women’s community project that uses a trauma-informed approach to support women facing multiple disadvantages, including those who may have committed offences or are at risk of offending. It provides a safe, women only space with the aim to empower and enable women to access the support they need, and improve the outcomes for them, their families and the wider community.
We are looking for a qualified and experienced self-employed counsellor to work on a contractor basis alongside our inspirational team to set up and facilitate an in-person peer support group for mothers who have been separated from their children at our centre in central Reading.
You should be a BACP Registered Counsellor/UKCP Registered Counsellor/Psychotherapist.
You will ideally have been trained in attachment based therapy and trauma informed practice and will have relevant experience of applying this practice in a group work setting.
You will work independently facilitating a group of approximately 8 women per session and will provide psychoeducation around loss, attachment, shame and trauma and encourage peer support and sharing of circumstances. You will provide therapeutic support within the group environment and refer on clients who may need further counselling support.
The time commitment would be approximately 2 to 2.5 hours per fortnight. This includes running group sessions of 1.5 hours and any additional administrative activity or session preparation. You will also be required to attend progress meetings with the Alana House Womens Centre Manager and other relevant PACT employees. This is a pilot project, initially running for 12 sessions with the expectation of extending the project on an ongoing basis, if it is successful.
It is expected that you would provide your own independent counselling supervisor and that you hold your own professional indemnity and public liability insurance.
For an informal discussion about our opportunity, please contact Sabina Cannell, Alana House Women’s Centre Manager on 0118 402 1759, or email sabina@pactcharity.org
We look forward to hearing from you!
