Make children smile this Christmas
At Christmas every child should be happy, surrounded by a loving family and full of hopes and dreams for the New Year. This is the reason behind everything we do at PACT.
Through our adoption support services and our domestic abuse recovery programme, PACT strengthens bonds between children and parents, supports children to recover from difficult early life experiences and helps families thrive.
We could not be there for children and families without your help.
Donate today to help make children smile this Christmas.
With your help we will make children like Joe, Jacob and Tom* smile this Christmas:
Joe and Jacob’s story
Brothers Joe (7), Jacob (11) and their mum fled from the children’s father following years of emotional and physical abuse. The family had to restart their lives from scratch; they lived in a refuge at first, and then relocated but continued to live in hiding. Their new home had no furnishings or kitchen equipment.
BB4K supported them through an eight-week domestic abuse recovery course and applied on their behalf for a grant to provide funds for kitchen equipment, clothes for the children and other necessities. BB4K also provided funding for school uniforms, food hampers and Christmas gifts.
After BB4K shared the news about the funding, Joe and Jacob’s mum was in tears. She said:
“I shall be able to cook a roast dinner for my boys on Christmas day. In the holidays we all sat together watching films all weekend for the first time in months – this is because we had somewhere to sit. I never thought having my boys sit on the same sofa as me would bring me to tears.
“I was in such a low mood before starting Bounce Back, my mental health and the children’s mental health was suffering; even though we had escaped the abuse, we had to start again with just a couple of bags of clothes.
“BB4K has made my mental health improve so much and made me feel stronger and happier and also the boys are more settled and happy… We now walk in and it is our safe place and is somewhere we can now call home.”
About the BB4K course, Joe said:
“I have enjoyed coming each week because it is a safe place to talk and to have fun, to take my mind off everything.”
Tom, who was adopted through PACT, attended a PACT Christmas activity session last year. These sessions are designed to be a safe, supportive space for children to have fun with other adoptive families and are run by trained professionals who understand the needs of adopted children.
Tom’s mum said:
“Thank you so much for still running this session. Tom has really missed out this Christmas due to COVID because he’s vulnerable. He has missed out on everything Christmassy at school, pantomimes, the nativity and seeing Father Christmas because he has to isolate. This was absolutely brilliant, it has made his Christmas, so thank you so much.”
“Thank you, I liked that the reindeer and Father Christmas waved at ME. I liked singing and doing jumps.”
PACT supports hundreds of families every year and we need your help to continue to support children and their families this Christmas. Donate today to help turn this holiday season into a happy memory.
