Debby has volunteered at Alana House, PACT’s women’s community project, since September 2019.
She gives up her time each week to lead cooking sessions for the women to help them learn to make a variety of economical, nutritious dishes. When lockdown began in March 2020, she moved the sessions online so that the women could continue to cook together from their own kitchens.
In additional to the weekly cooking group, Debby generously dedicated a huge amount of time and energy to bringing the Alana House recipe book to life. Love Trust Hope: Cooking to build and strengthen a community, which is now published and available to order, brings together recipes and inspiration from the cooking group and from staff, volunteers and women from the Alana House community. Debby took on the challenging role of collating all the recipes and testing every single one to ensure they would be perfect for the book. She also worked with our food photographer Tara Ferguson to take photos of the dishes and bring the recipes to life.
Debby said: “I volunteer at Alana House because I so admire the service users who are brave and strong enough to ask for the help they need to enable them to live a better and happier life. The staff and other volunteers are professional, compassionate and inspirational and there is a wonderful working atmosphere.”
Thank you so much Debby: you are a PACT superstar!
