Paula, PACT adopter

Paula adopted her son through PACT in 2016. She previously worked at Heathrow Airport but has recently returned to work for the Royal Air Force as a full time reserve officer.

Since becoming a mum, Paula has been a fantastic champion of PACT’s work. She provided us with opportunities to hold promotional stalls for PACT at Heathrow, created a case study for PACT about her adoption journey and she has generously shared her time and experience by talking to prospective adopters and answering their questions. She also set up an informal adoption support group for colleagues at Heathrow who had also adopted or were on their adoption journey.

In addition to this, Paula has supported adoptive families by volunteering for the Children And Trauma Community Hub (formerly The Adopter Hub) since its launch in 2017. The Hub is PACT’s online support platform for the adoption community and Paula is a member of our fantastic team of volunteer peer supporters who respond to the questions and concerns of Hub users. Paula further supported The Hub by applying to the Heathrow Community Trust on behalf of PACT, securing vital funding for peer support training.

Most recently, Paula put us in contact with Catalyze, a consulting company where one of her closest friends and supporters works, having successfully bid for PACT to be chosen as one of their 20 charities they will support for their 20th birthday this year.

Paula says: “When I first contacted PACT nearly eight years ago, I knew from then that they would provide the best support and advice I would need to guide me through the adoption process. They have since remained available and totally supportive in the five years since my son was placed with me and I know they are always there if I need help. PACT is by your side for as little or as much as you need. I have attended several training courses, benefitted from their webinars and their champions for advice, and we have enjoyed their family days out. As a charity I think what they do is amazing and I hope that the little things that I can do to give something back helps them to maintain this support for others. It’s lovely to be recognised in this way, but it is definitely a team effort. Thank you PACT for everything you have done for us.”

Thank you so much Paula for all the ways you have supported us: you are a PACT superstar!
