Back to school – help all our children reach their potential 🌟

This autumn term we are aiming to raise £20,000 which could go towards our vital services that support children to thrive at school. Together we can ensure their early-life experiences do not affect their future dreams and aspirations.

Why we are needed:

  • The majority of the children we work with have experienced trauma. This can express itself as confusion, anger, behavioural difficulties or inability to focus in school.
  • Adopted children are 20 times more likely to be excluded from schools.
  • 65% of adopters think their school doesn’t understand the impact of their child’s background on their mental health, and ability to engage, learn and achieve their potential*.
  • Exposure to domestic abuse causes serious physical and psychological harm to children. According to a study, 39% had difficulties adjusting at school, 52% had behavioural problems and 52% had challenges with social development**.

Our impact:

  • On average, we work with 70 children a year through our education specialist worker.
  • In 2024-2025, we worked with 158 children through BB4K.
  • It is worth noting that we indirectly benefitted a further 422 people last year, including adoptive parents and siblings.
  • On average we work with approximately 20 schools at any one time, thus reaching 40+ teaching staff.
  • Whilst the immediate impacts of this work are obvious, the longer-term influence should not be underestimated. A positive experience in school goes beyond educational achievement, it’s the foundations for future confidence and relationships.

Fundraising ideas:

  • School dinners – if you have a canteen could you add a donation ask of £1 to one of the meals.
  • Bake sale – download our Bake A Wish fundraising pack which includes recipes, cake signs and a customisable price poster.
  • Guess Who? Everyone brings in an old school photo and you pay £1 to play and see if you recognise your colleagues.
  • PACT lunch and learn – book a presentation with us to find out more about our work and how you can help.

What your donation can do:

£500 could provide support to families and schools to help children who have experienced trauma and abuse to reach their full potential.

£100 could give adoptive parents access to vital support and advice from our Educations Specialist, helping them understand their rights.

£50 could buy craft materials to support a group session with children who witnessed domestic abuse express their feelings.

Meet Amy 👋

Amy is PACT’s Specialist Educational Worker. She adopted her son seven years ago through PACT and worked as a primary school teacher for 20 years in different types of schools. Her last job was as Deputy Head. She’s worked for PACT for over six years now – supporting parents and schools to support children to be able to engage in school. I joined her for a chat after she had run a Navigating Education workshop.
