Blog: A student plcement year at BB4K

By Zariah, BB4K placement student

My time at BB4K has been nothing short of brilliant. This student placement is so unique. I’ve learned so much from everyone here and I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to complete my placement with such an inspiring team. This experience has given me more than I ever could have hoped for, especially in preparing for my future career in psychology.

One of the biggest things I’ve gained during my time at BB4K is a real boost in confidence. The service leaders and key workers genuinely believe in you and create so many opportunities to grow. You’re always encouraged, supported and trusted – and that makes a difference.

Another huge part of my learning has been around domestic abuse and the lasting impact it can have, especially on parent-child relationships. I’ve developed a deeper understanding of how trauma can affect family dynamics and the importance of creating safe and supportive spaces. This knowledge will stay with me and shape the way I approach any work in the future.

I also really appreciated the level of flexibility and autonomy I was given. Being trusted to take initiative, make decisions and shape parts of my own experience gave me some ownership and responsibility that helped me grow even more. It taught me how to manage my time and adapt quickly.

At BB4K, your wellbeing matters. How you’re feeling is always important to the team and you feel cared for as a person, not just a placement student. This kind of environment is rare and I’ll always be thankful for it.

Being involved in different groups gave me the chance to work with a variety of people and learn how to adapt to different situations. I developed new skills in handling conflict, reading the room and making sure others feel safe and comfortable. I’ll carry these skills forward into my future endeavours.
