News: PACT works with local businesses to understand domestic abuse

PACT is working with businesses across Reading and the Thames Valley to raise awareness of domestic abuse and how they can support their employees.

In 2025, Thames Valley Police saw 57,375 reports of domestic abuse crimes – that’s 157 crimes reported every day. The true number of incidents is likely to be much greater than those reported.

PACT delivers specialist domestic abuse recovery programmes and continues to see a lack of understanding around what constitutes as domestic abuse, and that victims don’t always recognise that behaviours they are experiencing are abusive.

Nationally, one in four women will experience domestic abuse in their lifetime and one in five men.  In spite of this only 5% of workplaces have a domestic abuse awareness policy, indicating that many employers aren’t always equipped to support their employees.

PACT is now offering companies across the Thames Valley the opportunity to access domestic abuse support training so that employers and their employees can feel confident the correct support is available.

Stephanie Harvey, Corporate Partnership Executive at PACT, said:
“Domestic abuse doesn’t stop at the workplace door. PACT has extensive expertise in supporting people affected by domestic abuse, and we work in partnership with businesses to help them recognise the signs, respond appropriately, and put meaningful support in place. Employers are in a unique position to make a real difference for employees who may be experiencing abuse.”
