News: PACT’s plans for Big Adoption Day

PACT will be among the voluntary adoption agencies (VAAs) from across the UK taking part in Big Adoption Day 2026.

The special awareness day, on Wednesday 21 January 2026, will highlight PACT’s mission to find loving adoptive families for children waiting to be placed, and the benefits of adopting through a VAA.

Big Adoption Day, led by the Consortium of Voluntary Adoption Agencies (CVAA) and the children’s charity Coram, will see participating agencies hosting in-person and online events in their local areas, and celebrating the real-life stories of families who have adopted, to encourage anyone interested in exploring adoption to find out more.

PACT invites anyone interested in finding out more about growing their family through adoption to its Big Adoption Day “meet the team” events at its four offices in Reading, Milton Keynes, Brighton and London, or to its online information event, hosted on Zoom, at 6.30pm. 2,940 children are currently waiting to be adopted across England, of which almost half have been waiting more than 18 months since entering care*. There is an urgent need for more prospective adoptive parents to come forward to provide permanent, loving homes for these children.

VAAs are independent, not-for-profit organisations, offering a personalised service to adopters from all backgrounds. They have a wealth of experience having placed thousands of children with adoptive families, particularly those who often wait the longest in care, including older children, those in sibling groups, and children from the global majority or with disabilities.

VAAs also provide all of their adoptive families with lifelong support, which is flexible and responsive to what families need, whenever they need it.

Lorna Hunt, PACT’s Adoption Service director said: “Big Adoption Day is a fantastic opportunity to shine a light on the urgent need for more adoptive families.

“Every child deserves the stability and love of a permanent home, and adoption can transform lives – not just for children, but for parents too.

“At PACT, we provide lifelong support to our families because we know adoption is a journey, and we are committed to walking that path with them every step of the way.

“If you’ve ever considered adoption, now is the time to find out more – you could make an incredible difference in a child’s life.”

One adoptive parent said about PACT’s adopter champion service, part of its lifelong, comprehensive support offer: “It has truly saved my family! We now have a wonderful little boy who enjoys spending time with his family and comes to us for comfort. At home now we are not just surviving, we are thriving.”
