Jason is a super supporter of PACT and an inspiration to us all. He has taken on not one but two extremely challenging events to raise vital funds to support PACT’s work: running the London Marathon and climbing Mount Kilimanjaro.
Jason said: “I chose to fundraise for PACT because I’m truly passionate about the charity’s mission. The work they do to support vulnerable children and families through adoption and therapeutic services is life-changing. Every child deserves a loving, secure home, and I’m proud to support a charity that makes that possible.”
“Running the London Marathon is something I absolutely love and I’ve now taken it on three times. There’s nothing quite like the atmosphere, the crowds, and the sense of unity that London brings. It’s my favourite marathon by far.”
“Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro was a completely different kind of challenge. I wanted to push myself in a new way – physically, mentally, and emotionally. Taking on both challenges in the same year felt like a bold way to celebrate with my 50th birthday.”
Both events required a great deal of preparation, training and determination. Jason explained: “For the marathon, I followed a structured training plan, building up to 40-mile weeks with long runs up to 20 miles. Training for Kilimanjaro was all about hiking and getting used to the kit and conditions.”
Jason said that both challenges were “emotional and unforgettable”. He added: “My first ever marathon ended in tears of joy (and pain, woefully under prepared – I have learned with age), and Kilimanjaro matched that – especially on summit day.”
“Every day on the mountain was a challenge, but the summit day was brutal. Most of the group were in their 20s, and I really felt the difference. On summit night we were hit by a snowstorm at 10pm, and at 11pm we were up getting dressed to go. I hadn’t eaten much the day before due to the altitude and couldn’t manage breakfast either. When we stepped outside, the ground that had been clear was now shin-deep in snow.”
“We set off slowly, and got slower, but managed to reach all the summits, including Uhuru Peak at 5,895m. I was completely out of energy by the Uhuru and still had to get back down. When I finally saw the helipad near basecamp, I confess to a few tears driven by happiness and absolute exhaustion—I think I also knew at this point I could be rescued if I really needed it! But that wasn’t the end of the day. After a quick tea and cake, we had another three-hour hike to the next camp down. In all it was a 14-hour day – physically and mentally exhausting, but absolutely worth it.”
When asked what kept him motivated to keep going, Jason explained: “I could not have completed these challenges without the amazing support and encouragement of my wonderful family who encouraged me all the way. Alongside my strong mind and a sense of achievement, knowing I was doing this for the support of PACT also kept me going. All my friends, colleagues and guides kept me focused and provided company on my journey and during time on the mountain, I am especially grateful to Invesco, my workplace, for doubling the money I raised.”
Jason said that he felt “incredibly honoured” to be named PACT’s Supporter of the Month. “I didn’t do this for recognition, but it means a lot to be acknowledged by a charity I care deeply about. I felt proud to lift the PACT flag at the summit of Kilimanjaro and to run my second London Marathon for them. These are moments I’ll never forget.”
“A huge thank you to everyone who supported me – through sponsorships, kind words, training company, and encouragement. And of course, thank you to PACT for all the support you provided along the way.”
“I’ve definitely caught the bug for more adventures – more marathons for sure, and now I’ve got my sights set on Everest Base Camp and Machu Picchu. Onwards and upwards!”
Jason encourages others to take on their personal challenges to fundraise for PACT: “Go for it! Taking on a challenge for PACT gives everything you do a deeper meaning. Whether it’s a marathon, a mountain, or something else, you’ll be amazed at what you can achieve – and you’ll be helping to change lives at the same time. It’s one of the most rewarding things I’ve ever done and knowing you are doing it for PACT keeps your commitment there on the tough days.”
We would like to thank Jason again for the incredible time, effort and commitment he has put into fundraising for PACT. We are delighted to name him Supporter of the Month. Jason, you are an absolute superstar!
