Terry Dixon is the founder of Terry’s Reading Walkabouts, a guided walking initiative he created after he retired. Terry’s range of themed walks around his home town provide information about Reading’s history, culture and events in a fun and entertaining way. The initiative has gone from strength to strength and he is a proud holder of a 5/5 Trip Advisor rating.
Terry now has 18 amazing different guided walks with themes including the Town Centre, Women of Reading, the History of Coley and 200 Years of Huntley & Palmers, and he is always open to suggestions for new routes. His walks are popular and often sell out.
Each year, Terry uses the proceeds from his walks to support local charities. We were delighted that Terry chose PACT as one of two charities to support during 2022-2023 with half the donations from those attending his Walkabouts going towards PACT’s work, and he is having his best year yet! Terry has also supported PACT’s work in many other ways over the and his wife Jackie recently began volunteering at PACT.
When asked why he chose to support PACT, Terry said:
“Sam Ward, PACT’s Events and Marketing Manager, came on one of my walks and we got talking. I had yet to decide which two local charities to support next year and hearing what PACT does was just the ticket. Having four young grandchildren, I’m fully aware of the potential need for this fantastic charity.
“It is great to be raising monies for Reading charities, but even better when I have been given the opportunity to get involved with PACT, from speaking at last year’s International Women’s Day service in the Minster to attending several events, and my wonderful wife Jackie is now volunteering for PACT.”
We are hugely thankful to Terry for his fundraising efforts as well as his support with bespoke walks for our events. Please do join him on one of his walks; they will be especially useful for ticking off the miles during our Marathon in May fundraiser!
