What’s on?

Alana House Reading is a holistic hub where women can access support from different agencies in a friendly, safe, trauma-informed environment. Agencies we work closely with include Change, Grow, Live drug and alcohol service, CommuniCare, which provides welfare rights advice, and Reading Borough Council which runs parenting classes.

The Alana House team work with a variety of other partnership-agencies to provide a diverse programme of activities, which are reviewed on a quarterly basis.

COVID-19 Information

In line with government guidelines and to minimise risk to our service users and staff, we are constantly reviewing how we can deliver our services safely going forward. Updates will be shared here and on our Facebook page.

Update: 25th June 2020

We are still not able to offer any face to face group activities at Alana House at this time.

Limited face to face 121 support from mid-July

We are putting procedures in place so that we will be able to meet with service users on a 121 face to face basis at Alana House. We aim to start this from the middle of July. These 121 appointments will be limited in the first instance, and offered to service users with urgent needs or those we consider are in crisis. The support workers will be contacting the service users, so please bear with us and do not attend Alana House until further information is given.

The need for any appointment will be assessed by the Alana House Team and appointments will be pre-arranged. A risk assessment with Covid-19 guidelines will be carried out prior to any appointment being offered and guidance about attending can be found here.

Ongoing virtual support

The Alana House Team will continue to offer support to all of our service user’s with 121 sessions over the phone or Zoom and of course our virtual drop in sessions and other group activities will continue alongside the new service stated above. Details of these virtual sessions are below

We are also able to connect service users to our partners who offer specialist support with various needs. To find out more, please call your support worker or the Alana House number: 0118 921 7640

We remain open to new referrals (both through professionals or self-referrals). We will contact all those referred to us and explore what support we can offer or help ensure they can access other appropriate services. The referral form can be downloaded here. For self-referrals please call Alana House on 0118 921 7640 or email Alana.house@pactcharity.org where one of our team will help you.

Virtual drop-in sessions

To stay up to date about virtual groups and activities that are available during lockdown, follow the Alana House Community Facebook page.

We run regular themed open sessions where women can take part in activities which encourage self-reflection, and which also provide opportunities to meet professionals from partner organisations that can also offer support. They are also a chance for relaxation and to try something new!

*We have moved our drop in sessions online due to the current lockdown.*

Details of drop in sessions and how to join will be posted on the Alana House Community Facebook page.

To join, you will need to download the Zoom App via your mobile or laptop. Once you have done this, a link for each Drop In session will be posted on Facebook on that day or given to you by your support worker if you have one, who will also give you that day's password. If you only use our drop in service then please call Alana House on 01189 217640 to get the password for that day's session.

In normal circumstances, Alana House Reading also provides a crèche facility, accommodating children up to the age of five years. The crèche is currently unavailable due to the lockdown.

The crèche provides children with somewhere stimulating and safe to play and be cared for whilst their mother utilises the other facilities at Alana House. It is staffed by qualified NVQ early years practitioners who work with each child on an individual basis. The crèche is free of charge for women registered with Alana House. Please call in advance to check opening hours and availability.
