Blog: From Events Volunteer to Enquiries Officer

By Anna Webster

Anna Webster works as an adoption enquiries officer for PACT. She first became involved with PACT four years ago when she was looking for volunteering roles while at university.

After contacting PACT and applying to become a volunteer, Anna began working with the events team at their adoption information events where she would welcome and chat to attendees interested in exploring adoption as a path to parenthood. This role suited her well as she had some previous experience of working with adopted children.

Anna said:

I really enjoyed speaking to prospective adopters and I felt extremely well supported and looked after by the PACT team!”

In 2020 when the COVID-19 pandemic began, PACT moved all its information events online. Anna was still keen to be involved with PACT so she continued to volunteer in a different role, helping the adoption team with some administration.

A little while later, Anna finished her university degree and began searching for jobs. A paid position had recently become available in PACT’s enquiries team and one of Anna’s colleagues at PACT encouraged her to apply for the role.

Anna said:

Having volunteered with PACT for a few years, I had seen what a friendly, kind and worthwhile organisation it was, therefore, applying for this job felt right for me.”

She interviewed for the role and was thrilled to be appointed to the position in 2022.

She said:

I now am happily working within the enquiries team, talking to and helping enquirers on their journeys to become PACT adopters.”

PACT has many different voluntary roles across all its teams and can provide volunteers with a fantastic range of opportunities and support to enable them to develop new skills and gain valuable on-the-job experience.
