Adoption charity Parents And Children Together (PACT) is holding two special events for anyone interested in finding out more about LGBT adoption.
As part of its support for national LGBT Adoption and Fostering Week from 4th-10th March, PACT is holding a question and answer session in London on Saturday 9th March from 10am, plus an online adoption information event on Wednesday 6th March at 1pm at www.facebook.com/pactcharity
PACT is one of the leading independent adoption charities in the country, offering outstanding Ofsted-rated adoption services to families across the South East. It welcomes couples or single adopters of all ages, ethnicities and backgrounds, and actively recruits LGBT adopters with 27 per cent of its adopters last year coming from the LGBT community.
The Q&A event will feature a panel of LGBT adopters sharing their adoption stories and answering questions about their experiences of adoption. There will also be opportunities for people to talk individually with experienced adopters and PACT social workers as well as to meet other prospective adopters over refreshments.
Eddie, who with his partner Jody adopted two brothers through PACT, is one of the panellists at the London event. He said adoption had been “life changing” for him, and encouraged anyone thinking about starting their family through adoption to take the first step and attend a PACT information event.
Eddie said: “As a gay teenager I thought my dream of becoming a parent and having a family were beyond the realms of possibility. But here I am some decades later with a wonderful family of my very own and I couldn’t be happier. Adoption has simply been life changing and I wouldn’t have it any other way!”
PACT’s Head of Adoption Lorna Hunt said: “If you’re LGBT and considering adopting, please do come along to our Q&A event to hear from some of our inspirational adopters and to speak to our expert staff. And if you can’t make it to our London event then do join us for our LGBT online event which will offer an introduction to what adopting with PACT is really like.”
PACT’s Chief Executive Jan Fishwick OBE added: “We are very proud to be supporting national LGBT Adoption and Fostering Week once again, and I really hope this leads to many more wonderful LGBT adopters starting their adoption journey with us.”
LGBT Adoption and Fostering Week is organised by New Family Social, a charity that supports LGBT adopters and foster carers. PACT adopters are entitled to become New Family Social members for life free of charge.
It is free to attend PACT’s Q&A but you do need to book a place by calling 0300 456 4800 or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org
