Maxine lives in Milford on Sea in Hampshire. Until 2016 she was a school principal adviser in West Berkshire District Council and as part of her role, she was the Virtual School Head where she led the team responsible for promoting education for children in care, and previously looked after children. After retiring she was invited to be a part of PACT’s Adoption Panel given her experience working with children in care and adopted children. Every 6-8 weeks Maxine sits on PACT’s Adoption Panel and helps the team assess prospective adopters and choose the right people to become adoptive parents. She also has experience of adoption within her own family.
Maxine decided to challenge herself by taking part in our Marathon in May as part of her training programme to complete her first triathlon! She committed to complete the distance of more than five marathons through a combination of swimming, running, and cycling, with the goal of finishing the challenge by taking part in the Blenheim Palace Triathlon at the end of the month. Throughout the whole of Marathon in May, Maxine was number one on the leader board which kept her motivated and motivated other participants to push themselves. By the end of the challenge, Maxine had completed 177.1 miles, the equivalent to 6.7 marathons! Through her fundraising efforts, Maxine raised a fantastic £230 towards our work supporting children, women and families.
When asked about her reasons for supporting PACT, Maxine said: “PACT has the right approach to post-adoption and the fact that they do so much support post-placement, for me, it’s as important as what they do for the assessments. They say to adopters that it’s a life-long commitment, and for me PACT also has a life-long commitment to its children and its adopters and I think that’s the most important thing, so raising a little bit of money to help that along and helping the people at Alana House and BB4K is where my passion is!”
Thank you Maxine for taking part in our Marathon in May; you are a PACT superstar!
If you were inspired by Maxine’s efforts, a great way to support PACT’s work is to make a donation. If you are an adopter and you would like to help out at PACT’s information events or share your story, please contact our Events team at email@example.com.
